Cycle Tour Weekend Planner (2026): Expo, Registration, Parking, Timing, and Food (plus Athlete Box collection)
Share
Cape Town Cycle Tour weekend is easiest when you treat it like a mini project: one Expo visit to tick off registration + last-minute shopping + food prep, then a calm, boring day before race day.
Key dates you need on your calendar
Cape Town Cycle Tour Expo (and number collection)
The Expo is the only registration / number collection venue, so you (or someone on your behalf) must go.
Expo times:
-
Thu 5 March 2026: 09:30 – 19:00
-
Fri 6 March 2026: 09:00 – 19:00
-
Sat 7 March 2026: 09:00 – 16:00
Entry fees:
-
Riders: Free
-
Adult supporters: R50
-
Kids under 12: Free
Race day
Sunday, 8 March 2026 (109km and 42km)
Expo game plan (how to do it without wasting hours)
1) Go with a mission (in this order)
1) Registration / race pack first.
You can’t ride without it.
2) Collect your Athlete Box preorder (Pasta Factory).
The Pasta Factory “Cape Town Cycle Tour Athlete Box” is a 4-meal box (R200) designed for riders/supporters/families. PREORDER HERE
3) Only then browse.
Gear deals and impulse buys hit different when you’re hungry and stressed—so save browsing for after the essentials.
Registration: what to bring (and how to collect for someone else)
If you’re collecting a race pack (for yourself or someone else), take:
-
A copy of your/their ID
-
Entry confirmation
And yes—you can collect for other participants if you have those documents.
Parking + getting there (Expo days)
Parking options mentioned by the organisers:
-
Public parking around DHL Stadium, plus limited parking at P3 (opposite McDonald’s on Fritz Sonnenberg Road)
-
Disabled bays at P5
-
Park at CTICC (P1) and use the MiCiTi shuttle running to/from the stadium during the Expo (normal CTICC rates apply)
-
If you cycle to the Expo, there’s a secure Thule Bike Park, but you can’t leave your bike overnight
Pro tip: If you hate queues, aim for Thursday late morning/early afternoon, or Friday mid-morning. Saturday gets busy because everyone is in “tomorrow is race day” mode.
Timing + race-day logistics (simple and calm)
Start line basics
The start precinct is The Grand Parade.
Bring the non-negotiables:
-
Number board on handlebars
-
Race number pinned on your back
-
FinishTime timing board correctly attached
-
Helmet
-
A light gilet (Grand Parade can be exposed and chilly)
Finish line basics
No bikes in the finish village—use the Bike Park at Green Point Cricket Fields (Thule Bike Park).
Food plan for the weekend (including Athlete Boxes)
The Athlete Box idea is perfect for Cycle Tour weekend because it removes decision fatigue—you just heat and eat.
Best time to eat your Athlete Box meals
-
Thursday/Friday: normal balanced meals (don’t “carb panic” yet)
-
Saturday (day before): choose your safest, familiar pasta meal as your main meal
-
Sunday (post-ride): this is when richer comfort meals shine
A smart “family-friendly” 4-meal strategy
If you’re feeding both riders and kids/support crew, aim for:
-
2 safer carb-forward meals for the rider (Friday/Saturday)
-
2 comfort meals for kids/supporters and post-race recovery
(If you want, paste the 4 meals you’re choosing and I’ll suggest the best “which day to eat which” schedule.)
