Strong Women and Good Food
This month is Women’s Month, so I thought it would be nice to focus on the amazing and influential ladies in my life. Strong women and great food are the cornerstones of a good life after all 😉
You may or may not be surprised to learn that Pasta Factory has 90% female staff. This was never a conscious decision, but it just naturally happened, and I have to say I’m very pleased about it.
All of our ladies are extremely loyal, hard-working and honest. They also have empathy, creativity and a great feeling for the products.
Now, I’m not saying that many men don’t also have these qualities and I would never exclude a man from a job if he was the right fit, but it has just happened organically.
Our business has always had a very strong female influence from the top-down. As you probably know from previous blogs, my mother started the business, which took a lot of hard work and determination! I admire her passion, creativity and absolute obsession with quality. Continuing with the business also requires the same grit and strength, and I couldn’t do it without a strong team behind me. (Anyone who owns a business will be nodding their head in agreement at this point!)
Strong women in my life
I have so much admiration for all of the strong woman I know, especially now that I’m expecting my first baby – the business is still going to need to continue and I know it’s not going to be easy, but we manage don’t we!
I do wonder at the enormous pressure some women place on themselves when they already deal with so much. For example, dieting and trying to be super-skinny – it seems such a shame to me that some would deny themselves one of life’s greatest pleasures of eating good food. We deserve it ladies!
Italians & Food
Talking of food, I’m lucky enough to have gone on a recent girls’ holiday to Italy. It really was an eye-opener with regards to eating habits. A good meal really doesn’t have to be fancy. Italians believe in eating simply and well. Just a basic pasta dish with olive oil, a sprinkling of truffle and Parmesan cheese was heavenly. If you use good quality ingredients (including fresh pasta) you don’t need to smother it in lots of rich ingredients. Italians seem to get so much pleasure from food, its all about the social aspect and sharing it with your friends and family. What could be better?!
